Story
Raised in a farming village in the Devon countryside, Freddy began playing his grandmothers piano from an early age, learning jazz. Once discovering a love of poetry from his English teacher, he began putting words to his music.
At 18, he moved to Manchester, beginning his stint gigging in piano bars and jazz clubs, getting used to late nights and bad pay, but honing his craft along the way.
Once putting a band together and gigging under his own name,
Freddy quickly established a buzz in the local scene, headlining the iconic
‘Deaf Institute’, ‘Night & Day’ and ‘AATMA’ all in 2023. Since then, he has been
awarded a funding grant from the Arts Council, allowing him to record his
music and put his visual world to the screen.
Combining the 70’s opulence of his piano ballads with the rockier edge of his band, Freddy Gillmore creates a brand of alternative music that reflects the pessimistic sentiment of his generation. His sound, much like his visual identity, exists in a dark and cinematic world; perhaps why he hails the likes of Jeff Buckley and Lana Del Rey as key influences.
